#1527 Simeon North Model 1819 Flintlock military pistol, smoothbored 54caliber 10” barrel

Description

#1527 Simeon North Model 1819 Flintlock military pistol, smoothbored 54caliber 10” barrel, and the first U.S military pistol to have the swivel iron “captive ramrod” installed as well as a sliding lock safety. About 20,400 were manufactured between 1819-1823 and in my opinion, the 1819 is probably the second most graceful, well proportioned, and appealing flintlock pistol (second only to the extremely scarce Model 1805). As is very common with these early flintlock handguns, the lock markings are somewhat light due to the flash pitting, thus the “S. North” is about obliterated from this powder pitting. Overall, the metal has some scattered light to moderate pitting, the worst pitting being on the left side of the front barrel band and at the left side of the barrel muzzle, but it is not so horribly gross as to make this a big deficit to this pistols overall condition and value. The wood is very nice with a visable cartouche and NOT having the usual crack at the wrist that is so common on these early handguns. A very handsome flint military pistol that was probably still used well into the late 1840s in the Mexican War. About VG++/Fine for the type. $2495
