#4789 Marlin 1881 OBFMCB 45/70, decent bore (being a 6-1/2 to 7 on a scale of 10). 8XXX serial range

Description

#4789 Marlin 1881 OBFMCB 45/70, decent bore (being a 6-1/2 to 7 on a scale of 10). 8XXX serial range (approx 1884). Action seems to be missing the firing pin, and likely whatever holds the pin in position. It otherwise seems to be operable, although the magazine nose plug is brass instead of steel and the hammer spur has been filed down about 3/8" (probably was chipped). Metal is very good with some faint traces of blue and basically smooth metal. It has been non-professionally engraved during its “in-use years”…not a bad job, but somewhat amatuerish, to say the least. If the engraving is found to be too objectionable, it could easily be buffed off as it is very shallow. The wood is very good, but likely replaced since the butt stock has about a two-inch longer pull than factory, and both forearm and butt stock are a little TOO good condition to be 130 years old. The butt plate is a well-done replacement, as well. Still, being this popular caliber, it is a VERY reasonable 45/70!! $1350

Price: $1,350.00
