#4899 Colt 1851 Navy revolver, late 3rd Variation, 110XXX (1862), VG bore

Description

#4899 Colt 1851 Navy revolver, late 3rd Variation, 110XXX (1862), VG bore with just the typical black-powder darkened grooves but strong rifling; smooth tight action. Exterior with a smooth grayish patina, VG/VG+ markings and 40%+ cylinder scene clearly visible another 20% dimly visible, the remaining 40% Invisible. VG/VG+ grips with moderate wear. Okay… now here’s the rather interesting part. This Navy has the Colt LONDON address and yet it has NO British proofs on the barrel OR the frame! The only thing that I can determine that this is, and it is just a wild a—guess, is that this was a returned (or never shipped) left over barrel from the closing of the London facility. It is well known that Sam Colt was not one to waste parts, and this barrel being a good usable part (and a relatively expensive piece), the factory just assembled it and sent it on its way. After all, in 1862, the War was heating up VERY fast, and all repeater guns were at a premium. About VG-VG+ as described. $1850

Price: $1,850.00
