#4948 Colt S/A 5-1/2”x45COLT, “U.S. Artillery”, 5-1/2”x45COLT

Description

#4948 Colt S/A 5-1/2”x45COLT, “U.S. Artillery”, 5-1/2”x45COLT. First off, this is an extreme rarity (read the pages from Kopecs great book on the military Colts that deal with this rarity) with only ONE confirmed and photographed in Kopecs book, and only one other known to exist somewhere in Texas. This is either another (3rd ) one, or possibly is the one from Texas mentioned by Kopec that has been sold and traded through some ownership changes. What Kopec explains is that this is a standard U.S. Artillery that suffered a frame failure in the early 1900s while these were still in service. Rather than scrapping a needed big-bore revolver, new frames were ordered from Colt. These new frames had no patent dates, no “U.S.” or inspector markings, and were the later push-latch cylinder pin release. All other parts were the regular mixed Colt S/A Artillery. Condition-wise, I’ll let the photos speak for it, but suffice to say it is at least “Fine” overall. For the martial collector, this is a real ultimate rarity!! $7450

Price: $7,450.00
