#4989 Colt S/A, 4-3/4”x44WCF, 132XXX serial range (1890 mfgr)

Description

#4989 Colt S/A, 4-3/4”x44WCF, 132XXX serial range (1890 mfgr), good tight action with all “clicks” on the hammer, and about a “7” bore as rated on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best; very desirable “Eagle” style hard rubber grips with just medium wear. This caliber and configuration is one of the most popular of all the Single Actions made after 1885 and being somewhat immortalized in the 1960s by the late Marty Robbins Country Western song, “Mister Shorty” ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0bcALLEgwI‎) about a “short-barreled bad forty-four” and the small man packing it. This particular gun looks just like what is portrayed in that song since it has a period done frontier replaced front sight, probably from the original being worn down from many years of being carried and used, but yet the mechanics are very good and markings are still mostly decent. The famed roll-die “CFSS” barrel logo is worn toward the muzzle end from many, many holsterings, but the correct two-line address is still visable, as are the other markings. Overall just a grayish-brown thin patina with scattered light to medium pitting and the usual bumps and dings of its 126 year life. There are lots of pictures of this neat old gun, so if they all do not load up, be sure to e-mail me and I’ll forward them along to you. VG overall, as described. $3195
