3023P Manhattan Fire Arms Co., Navy, 36 cal., 6 ½, Series III, 5 shot, 1863, Exc. Condition.

Description

3023P Manhattan Fire Arms Fire Arms Co. Newark N.J., Navy Type, Series III, 6 ½ inch barrel, 5 shot, 36 cal., manuf. 1859-68, SN 39XXX. These Navy Models were a serious competitor to the Colt Navy. Very well made with an extra cylinder lock for the hammer when carried loaded. The fact that there were 78,000 manufactured attests to their popularity and quality especially during the Civil War for private purchases.

This one is an excellent example of the Manhattan Navy Model. It was not fired many times as there is no pitting around the nipples which are like new. The bore is a shiny 9 and the action is crisp and tight. It has all matching serial numbers including the wedge. The barrel has 90% blue with edge wear and has bright blue on 70% with the balance thinning and a sharp clear address. The frame has 80% case colors and the rammer and hammer have 40%. The cylinder has 60% bright blue with the remainder thinning blue. The engraving and scenes are 95%. The patent date of 1859 and the serial numbers are sharp and crisp. The domed screws are all in fine condition. It has 97% silver on the trigger guard and back strap. The original grips are in fine condition with 98% varnish, no cracks or chips and some small dents on the butt.
It also comes with a time period flap holster that according to the family, it has always been with it.
A very nice Manhattan Navy Model.
Overall condition fine plus.
