#4785 Marlin 1881 OBFMCB Sporting Rifle, DSTs
Description
#4785 Marlin 1881 OBFMCB Sporting Rifle with the very desirable doubleset triggers, tight smooth action, 40/60M caliber and easily a 6-7 bore that just has the usual light pitting and lead build-up but still looking very shootable after a safety check from a qualified gunsmith who is familiar with antique weapons. Serial numbered in the 12XXX range (circa 1887), VG metal and markings. Standard open sights with just the little elevator piece missing from the buckhorn rear barrel sight. The wood is decent except for the forearm having a nasty sliver on the top left front rail edge and just average bumps and dings elsewhere. These impressive large framed ’81-Marlins used a Burgess patented action and were very popular and well built rifles. They were Marlin Firearms first venture into the lever action repeater market and the main reason that Winchester was forced to rush production of the Model 1886 and to drop the ’76-Winchester. VG as described. $1995
