#4579 New Haven Arms 1860 (AKA “Henry Rifle”), 44RF, 8XXX serial range

Description

#4579 New Haven Arms 1860 (AKA “Henry Rifle”) Second Model with pointed buttplate heel, 44RF, 8XXX serial range, late 1864 to early 1865 production with a somewhat dark dirty and lightly leaded bore that otherwise looks to have no serious pitting, no bulges or major deficits, and strong rifling. VG action and matching numbers. This Henry rifle is a VERY desirable Civil War “assault weapon” that has had some restoration done at some time during its long life, the most significant repairs being to broken tangs and a repaired or replaced butt stock, both of which have been expertly restored. This type of damage was a very common occurance most often caused by a 1100 pound horse rolling over on a 10 pound rifle that was left unattended in the saddle scabbard. The repairs to the upper and lower tangs are almost completely unnoticeable; the repaired or replaced stock has had the serial number matched and fits very well with only a very slight gap at the original buttplate and , if repaired rather than being a replacement, it obviously was sanded and refinished. It does have an original 4-piece cleaning rod set in the butt and this is the correct iron set for the later Henry rather than the early wooden rod set. The receiver is near excellent with beautiful brass and an even overall mustard coloring having no damage of mention. The barrel has a light overall roughness of salt-n-pepper pitting and an even brown patina with VG barrel address, and the barrel and rotating muzzle sleeve have matching assembly numbers. The rear sight is the original; the sling is the correct style but is a replacement. This Henry would easily be a $27,000-$28,000+ rifle if the stock were the undamaged original, so it is a GREAT value at $19,995. VG/VG+ as described.
